Tama is a playful creative who enjoys dabbling in all kinds of artistic forms. She loves the experimental aspect of art making and delights in the ways the creative process continually guides us towards new, uncharted territory.
Motherhood, mindfulness, art and creativity, connection with nature and the more-than-human are all essential parts of who I am. From a young age I have been strongly relational – naturally building bonds and connection with others and eager to explore the inner worlds of human emotion, psyche and spirit. Buddhist philosophy, animism, art therapy, feminist and Indigenist perspectives have all been influential to me. I have worked for many years in a variety of roles with children, youth, and families, as well as adults with disabilities and mental health conditions. My love of art, creativity, personal growth and healing all come together when I am engaging with others in a supportive role.
I have long been curious about the nature of reality and the mysteries of the soul, and have found visual art to be powerful tool for expression of that which can perhaps, never be fully explained or understood. Many cultures around the world have long recognized humans as existing within our ecological environments, a part of the wider system of life, rather than as something separate and apart from nature. I believe that returning to this understanding of our interconnectedness is a key to healing our collective human psyche and correcting the destructive path of climate crisis we are currently on. While my art practice is largely intuitive and process based, I do hope to capture some of that sense of being connected to the natural world and the wider universe. A feeling of wholeness that you might experience while sitting quietly by the ocean, breathing in the vastness of earth and sea and sky, and briefly knowing yourself to be a part of it all.
